GAZ Automobile Plant
The Gorky Automobile Plant was founded in 1932. Over its 70 years’ history GAZ became the centre of Russia’s automotive industry, having developed more than 150 models and versions and manufactured over 16 mln cars and trucks. GAZ specialists were directly involved in building and equipping all major automobile plants nationwide (VAZ, KamAZ, UAZ, ZAZ, PAZ and others).
Among the best-known models produced by the Gorky Automobile Plant are the famous, legendary GAZ-66, GAZ-52 and GAZ-53 trucks, Pobeda, Volga and Chaika motor cars. Over the last 20 years, the Gorky Automobile Plant has exported about 250,000 vehicles of various models.
As of today, GAZ still occupies a special place in the country’s automotive industry, being the only one in Russia to manufacture a wide range of both cars and trucks. JSC GAZ share in the national automobile manufacture accounts for 6.5% (cars), 55.6% (trucks) and 47.9% (buses). The annual output is in excess of 230,000 vehicles including trucks (52.4%), buses (17.2%) and cars (30.3%). The company’s annual turnover amounts to $2 bln. The Gorky Automobile Plant remains a traditional supplier of agricultural trucks, reliable AWD army vehicles, 1.5t trucks and medium-class Volga cars, whose versions are designed for use in adverse weather and road conditions. Gazelle, Sobol, Sadko and Tiger displayed here are current models continuing such famous brands as GAZ-66, BTR-80 and GAZ-69.
GAZ current products are high-quality, inexpensive and easy-to-use vehicles which meet the existing consumer demands. The Company’s product range features customized AWD and right-hand steering versions of all currently manufactured vehicles. The plant is now producing a wide variety of special-purpose vehicles including municipal and road machinery, repair vans and mobile laboratories, medical and cash collecting vans, tank and fuel trucks.
Through its extensive distribution network the Company at present delivers its products to more than 30 countries. Its traditional market outlets have included Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and CIS countries.

In 2005, a major GAZ-based automotive holding company was created incorporating four bus plants (PAZ, GolAZ, KAvZ, LiAZ), Kanash Auto Unit Plant, Yaroslavl Fuel and Diesel Equipment Plants and Saransk Dump Truck Plant. Such asset consolidation enhanced the company’s authorization of capital and brought its structure into line with the International Automotive Corporation standards. GAZ gained access to capital markets and enabled faster integration of the Russian automotive sector in the world auto industry.
At present, the Company’s authorized capital is over RUR 8,503 mln.
